AMARIN

I am blessed to have been born and raised within the breath taking landscape of Jasper National Park in the Canadian Rocky Mountains. I spent my childhood and teenage years exploring mountain trails, lakes and waterways on canoe, horseback, skis, snowshoes, hiking boots and running shoes. My love for animals and sense of interconnection as a teenager guided me towards a vegetarian and eventually plant based lifestyle. For the past 30 years I have resided within the foothills of the Rockies, in Bragg Creek , AB.  Here I raised my 3 daughters, eventually blending families with Dave. a PhD geophysicist who shares my love of the earth, my interest in human relationships, and the science of yogic and mindfulness practices.  Our spare time is spent as in my childhood years, immersed in nature, deeply grateful for the countless blessings of fresh air, water, interactions with the wildlife we share this home with.  Together Dave and I aim to help others awaken their connection with themselves, with nature and move to heal our planet.

PROFESSIONAL HISTORY

My initial yoga teacher training was with Don and Amba Stapleton at the Nosara Yoga Institute in Costa Rica where I embraced the Stapleton’s non authoritarian “self-awakening yoga’.  I started teaching  in 1998 in Bragg Creek & Calgary, within homes, community centres, various commercial spaces until finally settling at the present location at  The Heart of Bragg Creek.   In 2014 I attended the Science and Compassion conference at the Stanford University Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education, and was so inspired  I have been a close follower of science-based techniques for improving well-being and awareness ever since. Within this time I have accumulated over 2500 hours of Yoga and Mind/Body related study.

In January 2021, I will be graduating from a two year certified Mindfulness Meditation Teacher training with Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield.

I have enjoyed leading  yoga retreats locally and Internationally to Hawaii, Costa Rica & Mexico, year long personal inquiry explorations and month-long meditation and yoga “challenges” to deepen our self awareness.   With an expansive foundation in Hatha Yoga, my teaching has flowed towards focusing on weaving the deeply introspective practices of Yin/restorative yoga, Mindfulness Meditation (Insight/Vipassana), Neuroscience and how we connect with each other and the earth.

As Experience Journeys has been unfolding over the past couple years, I have also acquired my Apprentice Interpretive Guide Certification, OGC Field Leader,  40 hour Adventure Medic Certification and most recently have been certified as a Forest and Nature Therapy Guide.
